Local Guide: Howard Gangl- 'Cactus Jack'
I grew up in the sagebrush country of Wyoming and have traveled extensively throughout the west. I've been an Arizona resident for almost 30 years.
I've always wondered how people could live here for thousands of years before air conditioning, grocery stores and hospitals. I decided to learn about the indigenous people of the area and study the plants and animals which would clothe, shelter, cure and feed them. I became a docent at the local Heard Museum (The premier Southwest Native American Arts and Cultural center). I also worked as a naturalist and full time desert guide with a leading southwest tour company.
I love sharing my knowledge and stories with both visitors as well as locals and helping everyone to enjoy the Sonoran Desert as much as I do.

I was born and raised here in the valley of the sun.
It has been a true adventure growing up in such a diverse and unique place! I've traveled all across Arizona and still find myself in awe each and every day.
I moved to the northern part of the state and studied Sociology and Environmental Sustainability at Northern Arizona University. This furthered my interest in learning more about a place that seems uninhabitable but so many call home.

I created these tours as a way for explorers of all walks of life, and from all over the world, to experience the wonder for themselves.
